4 stars – New traditional tale

A couple of twins has been separated at birth. Renzo is Italian and Mi Ho is Taiwanese (their mother, the queen, was polyamorous). A green bird secretly suggests to each of them to go to Monterotondo, but their meeting unleashes an uncontrollable series of events…

In an unordinary, highly imaginative carousel of characters and events, a fairy tale unfolds that brings the audience on an unexpected journey. The storytelling process makes use of a mix of traditional techniques: Commedia dell’Arte is combined with Kabuki, some scenes happen in the Chinese traditional puppet theatre, but the puppets aren’t necessarily stuck in there.

Nightshade Collective UK is an international theatre formed by Francesca Fatichenti (performer and co-creator), Daan Ho (performer, magician and co-creator) and Devian Maside (co-creator). They combine elements from different cultures to create a story that has the enchantment of Oriental theatre, disrupted by the earthly humour of Commedia dell’Arte, and where magic leaves the dimension of storytelling to happen on scene.

This creation, that is complex and simple at the same time, is not yet totally sharpened, but it is inspiring and fun, a celebration of playfulness and imagination.
