Brotipo

Seen at Edinburgh Festival Fringe on the 11th of August 2023

4 stars – a celebration of friendship

Two clowns decide to put up a show, but their ideas soon diverge. How will they overcome differences? In this green and purple atmosphere, rhythm is tight and ideal for a laugh both for children and adults. The clowns’ interactions are perfectly timed and their mimics are simply irresistible.

With parts of Acrobat circus, and parts of Diablo juggling, Rémi Jacques and Jean-Félix Bélanger, from the Montreal group Les Foutoukours, combine circus with an intelligent representation of human relations. Their show deals with themes that are very relevant, especially for young humans: scenes are represented in which one needs to deal with competition, to live up to another person’s expectations, to the comparison with them and to their ideal goal. The clowns solve situations by supporting the other and encouraging to accept one’s limits, and by acting with reciprocity and mutuality.

The educational part blends into the circus show giving it a sort of plot, making Brotipo an amazing show for the little ones, and a very pleasant one in general.
