3 stars – compelling performance

Kacie is an aspiring actress who also sells windows on the local market as a side-hustle. Her first sales prove her that it isn’t an impossible task, but other events in her life bring her further away from this job.

When she experiences the loss of a person close to her, she plummets in a spiral of questions on her own identity. Her boyfriend, her therapist, an audition and a recurring dream become the sequences of a play and of the moment of grief the character is going through. While she feels lost and tries to find herself again, shadow images sometimes guide her, sometimes confuse her.

Actress and writer Kacie Roberts is very talented and delivers an extremely solid performance, managing the stage in a powerful way. Some parts of the story result more interesting than others, as it proceeds through the alternance of different sequences. Each one is accompanied by shadow play: this mechanism brings other characters and images to life, but it doesn’t receive all the attention and centrality it deserves. Overall, I Sell Windows, directed by Angeleno Jaquita Ta’le (co-founder, with Kacie Roberts, of Bottle Tree Theatre) is successful in telling a story, but not so much in clearing the space for an emotional connection with it.
