4 stars – plush feminist comedy
Under a plush blanket, on plush pillows and next to a plush book, Riah Knight is sleeping. From the start, she engages the audience with great energy – even a very small and shy audience as was the case when I saw the show. Starting on a playful, amusing note, the performer carries us on the journey to describe female desire.
Through Biblical stories and references (and one even more ancient) that animated her young imagination, and legends about women, Riah Knight explores the forms of female desire with an upbeat, devil-may-care attitude. In this search, she engages in a confrontation with a feminist approach, trying at the same time to deconstruct a certain mindset and to listen to her own body and mind. At times, I had the impression that some points could have been made more sharply, but the show presents an excellent mix of engagement and hilarity.
Lie With Me by Glossy Pain productions, directed by Katharina Stoll, is an experimental comedy that breaks the walls of stereotypes through playfulness and laughter. Riah Knight’s original songs and beautiful voice drive the narrative into sometimes enchanted, sometimes mundane moods, resounding through a… guess what? Plush mic! A few scenography elements convey to the play its unique aesthetics, that vibrantly asks to be seen and receive attention, as female desire and female pleasure deserve.
