3 Stars – nicely weird
In Central Park, two characters meet who would not usually have contact with each other. Peter, a well-off man with a wife and children, is having his Sunday reading time on a bench. Jerry doesn’t reveal much about his background, but his ways are not as polite as Peter would have expected. As soon as he starts a conversation, the characters are bound in a tragic way.
Manos Koutsis (Peter) and Paul O’Dea (Jerry) deliver a neat show with flaws. Their interpretation is convincing, especially in the weirdness Peter feels and the one Jerry embodies. On the other hand, the play sometimes lacks rhythm and energy. The space on stage could possibly have been used in a more interesting way, and the moments of closer interaction don’t reach the emotional hype of the tragedy. Nonetheless, is a nice occasion to get to know the beautiful text by Edward Albee.
