5 stars – towards human and beyond

A character is there, sat on a chair, who resembles a man in a suit. He is looking back, aware of being looked at, and this awareness shapes his movement, as he piles and drops and bites and rolls and piles and drops.

In suspended time, we travel from the Recognisable to the Unrecognisable, slipping through the Uncomfortable and the Unspoken. As the character metamorphoses, he drags atmospheres, lights, and gods with him. In his individual quest, which has the common ground to be an absolute one, the character is desperate to be, but also to shape his identity in relation to others’ gaze. Who are we when we are being looked at? What do we strive for, when we are not?

Through beautiful images, and some degree of irony, NEGARE creates a surprisingly simple but compelling representation of human nature in relation to ‘the other’, be it human or not. This solo piece choreographed by Giovanni Zazzera is a part of a trilogy, along with the other shows CREDERE and (di)SPERARE, created by his Luxembourg-based Z Art Dance Company.

The incredible expressive force of the dancer Alexandre Lipaux and the unique connection he creates with the audience make this piece a poetical, unforgettable experience that speaks to all parts of us humans.
